[agenda] Agenda suggestion: Read-only list access
Dear NC Intake Committee,
I would like to suggest to put the following item
on the next Names Council meeting agenda available:
NC mailing list read-only access for non-members
Rationale:
Some very interesting discussions are taking place
on the Names Council list, but even though they
are public, the technical access is somewhat
complicated: The discussions are only available
via the Web archive, which makes it very hard to
follow the discussions on a regular basis.
However, it would be possible to provide read-only
access to the NC list: As before, only certain
persons (Names Council members, DNSO Secretariat,
ICANN Staff and Board, General Assembly Chair and
Alternate Chair, Names Council Meetings' Scribe,
NC Working Group's Co-Chairs) are allowed to *post*
on the list, but others may *receive* the postings by
mail.
Something similar is done for the General Assembly
mailing list: People may subscribe to ga-monitor@dnso.org
to receive postings without becoming a GA member, e.g.
for automatic archiving.
According to Elisabeth Porteneuve, setting up such an
option -- comparable to a listen-in port on a
teleconference -- is technically feasible; according
to Vany Martinez, it is very easy to set up.
I don't see any particular reason to oppose such
read-only access; it should be an agenda item taking
up little of the NC's time.
However, it would make it much easier to follow the issues
on the NC agenda and enable additional transparency!
Thanks and best regards,
/// Alexander
