[council] TOTALLY INCORRECT Information about CENTR
CENTR Colleagues,
A press article in a Swedish journal included the following TOTALLY
INCORRECT information about CENTR.
"CENTR proposes the introduction of the TLD .eu in order to promote the
interest of Europe. Because the national TLDs are relatively small
compared with .com, .net and .org, 33 ccTLDs decided in March 1998 to
establish the organisation for lobbying called CENTR. CENTR is
representing the interests of these TLDs internationally, i.e. within
ICANN. With the exception of .eu CENTR, also promotes harmonisation of
the rules for registering domain names in different TLDs which in the long
run may change the rules within .se."
CENTR is NOT promoting the introduction of .eu The CEC is making this
proposal, and CENTR is considering its position on this. Initial enquiries
by CENTR members have determined that some EU country governments are
opposed to the CEC proposals.
CENTR is NOT promoting the harmonisation of the rules for registering
domain names in different TLDs. CENTR regards the rules as a matter for
each ccTLD.
We, the CENTR Executive and staff, are trying to find out whether this was
just bad/stupid journalism - or whether there is perhaps a more sinister
explanation.
Please make sure that the people in your country who should know about this
are informed.
