[council] More Collisions in Namespace on the Horizon
HR 2417 (.kids domain) picked up six additional co-sponsors yesterday: Rep
Ken Lucas, Rep James P. McGovern, Rep Patsy T. Mink, Rep Jesse L.
Jackson, Jr., Rep Cynthia A. McKinney, and Rep Edolphus Towns.
http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d107:HR02417:@@@P This brings the
number of sponsors to nine so far.
Another domain name collision is heading our way (as new.net is currently
acting as the registry for .kids...) How long will the Names Council
continue to contend that this topic is beyond the scope of the DNSO?
The General Assembly asked for a working group to review the prospect of
collisions in namespace. Now we are faced with ICANN Policy that (like
Athena) appears to be born full-grown and and in full armor, that has
entirely by-passed the DNSO.
A policy paper was issued without the necessary bottom-up process, without
any public comment, without constituency input, and without full informed
participation by ICANN's Board. What does the Council intend to do about
this?
