I have since learned that WIPO Member State governments are, in fact,
scheduled to discuss the issue of geographical identifiers as well as the
other issues contained the WIPO-2 Report in two upcoming special sessions
(the first is next month) of the WIPO Standing Committee on the Law of
Trademarks, Industrial Designs and Geographical Indications, with the
deadline of reporting to the WIPO General Assembly for consideration before
September, 2002.    So there is no need for anyone within ICANN to task WIPO
on this.  Perhaps the Names Council could simply acknowledge these ongoing
WIPO activities in its resolution.
