Communiqué from the 14th CENTR GA

The Council of European National Top Level Domain Registries (CENTR)
convened its 14th General Assembly in Greece between 30 - 31 May 2002.
Twenty-seven national ccTLD registries were represented at the meeting,
which was excellently hosted by the Greek ccTLD Registry, GR-HOSTMASTER.

In addition to the normal business of finances and internal organization,
the members heard interesting presentations from the NORID on different
registration policy models, from the Brazilian Registry on their operation
and registration tools, from Nominet .uk on their experience of introducing
a new SLD, from Verisign on "real names", and from NeuStar on their
experience with .us to date. An application by Afilias, the registry for
.info, to join CENTR as a new associate member was approved.

Thorough and informed discussions on ICANN reform saw the approval
by rough consensus of  a draft position paper to be finalized before the
ICANN Bucharest meeting. The meeting also endorsed the final documents
from the IANA working group spelling out the necessary operational
relationship between a reformed ICANN and the ccTLDs.

The 15th General Assembly will be held on 5-6 September 2002 in Lithuania.
