To the Names Council:
Today the ICANN Board selected Public Interest Registry (PIR), a
not-for-profit organization established by the Internet Society, to
enter into contract negotiations with ICANN to become the successor
operator for .org. The annoucement is posted at

preliminary report of the Board meeting is posted at
<http://www.icann.org/minutes/prelim-report-14oct02.htm>.
ICANN thanks the applicants for their committment in the long and
arduous evaluation process, which resulted in many excellent proposals.
