[council] TR: Voting:
[To: council@dnso.org]
[To: touton@icann.org]
Forwarded from the GNSO Secretariat as requested by the sender, Ellen
Shankman.
[DNSO SECRETARIAT] From : Ellen Shankman [mailto:ellen@ellenshankman.com]
Objet : Voting:
Dear All,
Regarding the upcoming voting:
If a candidate will be conflicted out of voting on important issues, the
voters should know that up front.
As the GNSO Council selects members of the ICANN Board of Directors, we
should do so with the expectation that these persons will be active
participants on the Board and that they will debate and vote upon all major
issues coming before the Board, especially those issues relating in any way
to subjects within the purview of the GNSO.
In order for Council members to make an informed decision as they vote, I
suggest that each nominated candidate disclose, prior to the beginning of
the voting period:
(a) whether she has invested in or received any compensation from an entity
engaged in transactions with ICANN (including but not limited to a
registrar, registry, or applicant to run a registry) over the past 12
months;
(b) if so, whether that investment or compensation relationship exists
today;
(c) if so, how the candidate plans (if selected for the ICANN Board) to
comply with the conflicts policy summarized above; and
(d) the types of issues coming before the Board on which the candidate
believes she would be disqualified from voting due to the conflicts policy.
Thanks,
Ellen
