And in MDR, he yelled that he was willing to ignore IOD's claim to
.WEB "knowing they had a functioning registry..." However, he does
embody the attitude of the BoD. It's a shame, because they have
now opened a Pandora's box.
In actuality, if you were to think ahead a bit, there is no reason
why a registry/registrar cannot exist and perform well. If there
were 100 TLDs, it would not matter. A registry is automatically a
monopoly because there is no reasonable techncial method to split
it up. With a multitude of TLDs, it would have little meaning, just as
in any other business. Every entrepreneurial business is a monopoly
in that sense. Many franchise, but still hold the HQ. If a registry
brings in additional registrars the goal is accomplished.
IOD has every right to .WEB and its model has worked for five
years. ICANN's rejection was arbitrary and unwise.
