The candidates could make their acceptance conditional to being voted for
as part of a ticket.
Any other nominee can do this as well. (I accept the nomination, if people
will vote for me as part of a Younger/Corliss ticket)

There appears to be a general lack of will to discuss the current election
rules, but in this way the candidates can create a ticket based approach
themselves.
If the voters do not like it, they will not vote for them. 

Personally, I think that a ticket based approach is to the benefit of
effective  GA Chairing and it is a pity that we do not have the time to
discuss amending the election rules to achieve a better approach.
