Re: [ga] ICANN leaves no money for public elections
Dear Mr. James;
Where is the budget for raising qualified contributions/income how much
did they slate to bring in money which will keep them qualified under the
tax law. The at large issue is minimal to the statement that they
have a plan to go profit and are aligning with Verisign obviously.
The charging for services scheme is a clear indication, their lobbying
is a clear indication and the contracts are a clear indication that there
will be no public Board election but they are smoothing they way to change
to profit and probably closed at that.

ICANN
leaves no money for public elections--In its draft budget for 2001-2002,
the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers has not allocated
any funds for At-Large Elections, in spite of its past
promises to choose at least five more Board members through this electoral
process. This move comes as ICANN moves forward with its so-called "clean
sheet" study, which many observers fear will undercut
democracy in cyberspace. Further details are available from ICANN
Watch; background information on these issues can be found in the Cyber-Federalist.
