William:
To have a "leadership" presumes that there is a "followership."
If those involved unilaterally balk at whatever the "leader" tries
to do, based on that person's own individual notion of what is
a "proper fashion," and before the system sought to be set up has
had any chance at all to prove itself, then there will be no progress
indeed, except by entirely disregarding the naysayer and proceeding
as though that person did not exist. Oblivion awaits the foolhardy.
I might add that Joanna is perfectly correct about her comments as
to the EU law; as a patent attorney who files all over the world, I'm
obliged to stay on top of those kinds of things, and I am absolutely
certain that essentially all of Europe has an entirely different and much
more humane concept of privacy than does the greed-driven U.S.
(Do you know that my computer now pops up occasionally with
garbage from Microsoft, unbidden by me and I don't know how it
got there, which invades my privacy? I'd really be mad except that
it sends me into hysterics every time I see it: it has a box that one
can click which says "trust everything sent to you by Microsoft,"
or words to that effect. My laugh for each day is guaranteed.)
(Cross-posted only because the naysayer is in the wrong pew.)
