whenever i read one of these rants for which joe sims is becoming 
increasingly famous, i find myself wondering: what's he up to? joe
is smart and disciplined enough to restrain from compulsive indul-
gence in abject bullshit -- so i assume there's at least some kind
of 'strategy' involved, if not some external force that leaves him
with little alternative. 

one obvious possibility is that he's indulging in ye olde game of
trolling: trying to lure ICANN's critics (in this case karl) into
saying intemperate things which can and will later be used to dis-
credit them in official fora. i have no doubt this is one of his 
main aims in trolling the GA list. 

another possibility is that big man sims is honestly concerned his
work will go up in smoke, and he's busy trying to soil the public 
record with his pontifical diktats and sway the nebulum called pub-
lic opinion. i'm pretty sure this is a big factor too. more power
to you, joe: you can try to pass of your insiderish ravings as THE
truth, but it only ends up convincing more people that your client
is, at root, a wretched bunch of gangsters.

another possibility is that he's just plain losing his cool. what
with the growing concerns about the failures of corporate govern-
ance (and more to the point, the lack thereof: ICANN as case study),
i'd be getting antsy too.
