Re: [ga] WLS: Dotster posts the definitive arguments against it, and more
George Kirikos writes on July 11:
"For example, we use US Dollars as currency because it is trusted that
others will continue to accept them as payment, and are happy to store
those in banks. If a monetary system like that loses its trust (e.g. due to
hyperinflation, printing of money, etc.), folks will abandon that currency,
even though "technically", the paper and coins that the currency is printed
on haven't changed."
It all gets back to maintaining domain names as a commodity doesn't it?
and is a non-sensical argument clearly favored by the biggest speculators
of them all: the registrar community (including Verisign). We certainly do
not want to cause harm to the aftermarket value of .com by turning on the
printing press. The entire Net would become less stable. No one
will "trust" domain addressing anymore. We'd have total collapse. Now,
I've heard everything.
