[ga-nominations] Re: Request for statement of acceptance
1a. David Farrar
1b. david@farrar.com
1c. David lives in New Zealand and since 1997 has worked in the
private office of the then Prime Minister (now Opposition Leader) in a
variety of IT and Communication roles. He is currently an Information
and Strategy Analyst.
David has also been a member of InternetNZ (Internet Society of NZ
which manages the .nz TLD) since 1997 and has just been re-elected
onto their Council. He played a major role in the move towards a
shared registration system for .nz and is currently on a working group
investigating domain name dispute resolution policies.
David also is an occasional commentator in the local media on Internet
issues.
1d. David sees the role very much as a representative one where he
will seek to ascertain the consensus views of the GA and advocate for
them as part of the Taskforce. Such communication will be very much
two way. He believes the position will be one which will need
advocacy skills along with pragmatism in trying to also gain maximum
consensus within the Taskforce on how to best establish an
Individual's Constituency.
David also believes that the motivations of taking part in the
Taskforce should be beyond challenge. If an Individual's Constituency
is successfully formed at the end of the Taskforce process David will
refuse any initial position of leadership within the constituency and
would also make himself ineligible for inaugural nomination to the
Names Council as a representative of such future constituency
David's only motivation is to successfully contribute towards changing
the status quo of non representation of Individuals within the DNSO
which he finds indefensible.
