[ga-roots] Briefing Paper
The Names Council met in teleconference this morning and began discussion on
"roots". Some NC members expressed the sentiment that they were not yet
sufficiently educated on the topic at hand, and desired to be better
informed on technical issues prior to attempting to formulate "terms of
reference" for use by a working group. This discussion led to a
recommendation that the NC form an interim committee tasked with preparing a
"briefing" for review prior to Stockholm. Committee members were selected:
Milton Mueller, Grant Forsythe, Tony Harris, and Peter deBlanc.
As this mailing list counts among its participants a number of experts on
the topic, I would appreciate it if together you could volunteer to draft a
"briefing paper" for the benefit of the NC, and for the education of future
participants to the working group that may soon be convened.
Please note that this is strictly a "briefing paper", not a "position
paper". The purpose of this document is education, providing necessary
background materials, RFCs, definitions, a layman's explanation of
terminology being used, etc. Issues are to be defined, not commented upon.
Please note that the NC has not asked us for this work-product, but this is
exactly what the GA should be doing, as draft document preparation is indeed
our job under the by-laws.
