OK Joe, I have to stop this torrent of abuse that has been dished out. I
sent
a tongue in cheek message to you regarding "asking others before you do
somthing
that affects them", and you take it out of context.
The numbers that I show for 6/12 (64,000 hits) is a TYPICAL day on ASLAN. On
May 24
or 25, our numbers went from this average of 64k hits to over 500,000 per
day. I think
thats when you reclaimed your ARPAs from Diebold, or something. I was happy
to see
an 80% INCREASE in traffic, and was a bit annoyed when it went away.
So, ORSC did not loose 80% of its traffic from your actions, ORSC never had
that
traffic in the first place - it was all folks using Diebold's name servers
(which
happened to use the ORSC root zone), that was now dumped onto ASLAN due to
the fact
that ZNET had a list of ORSC root servers that it got from Diebold.
As you said, ZNET was using the servers because Diebold's name was attached,
not
because you did anything to win them over. FYI: ZNET appears to have gone
back to
the legacy root.
ADNS remains committed to running ASLAN and sticking with ORSC. I am annoyed
by this
continuous bickering. This is an example of why ICANN has as much power as
it does -
they get things moving, and all we (in the inclusive namespace) do is bicker
amongst
ourselves. Thats the way you control people in a democracy - get they to
fight among
themselves and they will never unite against you since they are too busy
fighting
against each other. In this case, no one had to instigate it - it just
happened and
folks like Cerf, Touton and Crispin are snickering all the way to the bank.
There is currently no organization out there that can be a formidable
opponent to what
ICANN is trying to do to the internet. I have, and will continue to work
with those
who claim that they want to work towards a common good, but I am not
optimistic that
any such effort can be mounted. People just cannot control their passions
and desires
to beat each other up.
Bradley hates Richard, Richard hates Bradley, this one hates that one, the
other one
hates everyone else. Joe wants to criticize ORSC, on and on and on, etc.
They are so consumed by their own little wars, that they dont see
their common interests.
There isn't much hope under these circumstances. We all have very little
resources (ie $$)
and those who have it wouldn't touch us with a ten foot pole because of the
unprofessionalism of some of the people involved. In this case, better just
hand the
keys to the kingdom to ICANN and call it GAME OVER.
John
