Well, since you invited me to
join this group, Patrick, and after reading the email(s)that were attached...I
suspect that you want me to convey what I have instigated. Ok, here goes
in a nutshell, since we are to be prohibited from registering US Federal
trademarks and/or servicemarks on TLD's, I surmised there were other approaches.
Multiple states and foreign countries issue trademarks and often for things the
US Trademark office will not. But, courts have upheld the states rights to
do this. So, folks, we have a test case we are preparing. Someone is
registering a TLD trademark here in Illinois, and probably in
Virginia also. We are looking for a foreign country that has a "cheap"
trademark fee. Illinois is $10.00, and Virginia is $30.00 just so you
understand what I mean by cheap. We spent the weekend looking at
Australia, most of South America, Great Britain etc. Some are surprisingly
large fees. If we can find a country that will help, we think we have this
one in the bag. The best possible help is from an European country that is
a member of the European Union. And that link will become increasingly
clear. I'm sorry that I can't tell you the whole story, but does anybody
know of a country that fits our bill?
