This is a good point.
As I'm sure the web developers on this list can readily imagine, it's a
nontrivial design enhancement -- in that our existing systems use the
exceptionally crude "post-only" method, requiring essentially no
authentication at all, whereas what you suggest would call for the ability
to verify that the user requesting the withdrawal of a comment is the same
person who submitted it. Certainly very doable, but a little
further-reaching than I think is advisable to add on a couple week's notice.
If anyone wants to either withdraw or modify a comment (as Harald
subsequently suggested) during the course of the Melbourne meetings, the
best procedure will be to send a quick email to that effect to the tech team
(webcasthelp@cyber.law.harvard.edu). I'll add a quick note to the remote
participation system to this effect. Depending on the perceived value of
these additions, we may make them more robust & automated for the future.
