I do business on both sides of the pond and the *only* way to avoid date
errors is to never write a date entirely in numbers unless the day falls on
or after the 13th of the month. If it does, use the alphabet for the month.
i.e: 6/31/01 or 31/6/01 is fine, but neither 6/4/01 nor 4/6/01. It must be
June 4, 01 or 4 June 01, or even 01, June 4. Anything else is open to
misunderstanding.
I spend more time than I care to admit writing notes to each side reminding
them to read the dates on accompanying documents backwards...:-)
