[ga] Questions that Congress should ask ICANN at the upcoming hearings.
Questions that Congress should ask ICANN in the
upcoming hearings.
1. How can the Lynn proposal be accepted without
violating the MOU's mandate to allow meaningful participation by the At-Large
community (meaningful means we have a SAY in policy).
2. Why has ICANN not provided for elections for
At-Large board seats this year?
3. There are several thousand operational TLDs out
there in the Inclusive Namespace that have been operating for years. They are
beyond proof-of-concept. They operate real registries and have been doing so for
years. What won't you recommend their addition to the USG root?
4. Please explain how you justified selecting .BIZ
as one of the seven new TLDs when this TLD was already in use by AtlanticRoot.
Please explain how this is not a violation of the MOU provision that states that
no action on the part of ICANN will harm any person or organization.
5. One of the major, MAJOR requirements is that
ICANN support and maintain the stability of the internet. Selecting a colliding
TLD is about the most
de-stabilizing thing that anyone can do. How do you
explain your decision?
6. In fact, isn't the REAL reason you chose .BIZ
was because you wanted any ISPs that had switched to Inclusive Namespace roots
to have to make a
tough decision because of customer complaints about
not being able to access "real" .BIZ addresses. In fact, wansn't this just a
scheme to crush
the competition?
7. Isn't ICANN really a monopoly that is protecting
the narrow business interests of a few companies and organization who have
packed the Board in an
undemocratic capture that violates the ICANN bylaws
and the MOU with the US Government?
8. In light of all of ICANN's transgressions, can
you give a good reason why we (USG) should not retain control over the roots?
Can you give us a reason why
we shouldn't terminate the MOU with ICANN and look
to form a successor organization that will honor the contract that they made
with us?
Thats for starters. Others, please have at
it.
