bogus red herrings here. Law enforcement can get off it's ass and do
proper investigations. you track to the physical geographical location -
and get the appropriate warrants along the way.
whois is not a fishing expedition for law enforcement nor has it ever
been such a beast.
as for business and individuals who want to know who they are dealing
with. thats another bogus red herring. i have an accounting and business
background and what i know of the net leads me to the conclusion that you
don't use it to establish formal relationships. In business we get
trade references and follow them up. Businesses can access the BBB,
credit ratings, reports etc.
if you need to trace the source of a publication then visit the library.
