[ga] Internationalized Domain Names deployed
Hello,
See the announcement at:
http://www.icann.org/announcements/announcement-20jun03.htm
Reading the RFCs, I think a lot of folks should be worried about the
security implications, as abusers will be able to register domains that
use characters that are indistinguishable to the naked eye, due to the
extended character sets in the internationalized domain names.
E.g. you might get an email purporting to be from Microsoft, AOL, AT&T,
your ISP, etc., and to the naked eye the email address and web
addresses look perfectly legitimate -- instead, they redirect you to a
site designed to steal your credit card details or passwords....
I expect a backlash, once the IP community and Business Constituencies,
amongst others, begin to see the abuses.
Be afraid, be very afraid....
Sincerely,
George Kirikos
