I am writing to provide my strongest possible endorsement for James Love of
the Consumer Project on Technology, whom I have known for the last five
years. Mr. Love's work has had a profound impact on my own efforts to make
tuberculosis treatment accessible to all in the developing world. Through
his extraordinarily effective use of the Internet, he has made great
contributions to the efforts of many international non-governmental
organizations focused on increasing access to essential medicines. He has
revealed to many of us the potential of technologies such as the Internet to
benefit a broader public in poor countries as
well as rich ones. In all his work, he has truly demonstrated a visionary
appreciation of cyberspace and its potential social benefits. As a member of
the ICANN
board he would be a unique resource to the global Internet community,
representing the non-commercial sector as a whole and millions of individual
users. The Domain Name System must have thoughtful and knowledgeable voices
like that of Mr. Love if ICANN is to fulfill its charter's vision of "an
international network of networks, owned by no single nation, individual or
organization." Without him, I would go so far as to say, that vision would
be endangered.
