[icann-nominations] Date: Wed, 5 Mar 2003 14:11:51 -0800
Today I have the privelege of nominating two highly qualified candidates
for the GNSO election to the ICANN Board. In this e-mail, I have the
pleasure of nominating Susan Crawford, a candidate I consider to be
eminently qualified for the position of director.
1a. Full name of the nominee: Susan Crawford
1b. E-mail address of the nominee: scrawford@scrawford.net
2a. Full name of the nominator: Jordyn A. Buchanan
2b. E-mail address of the nominator: jbuchanan@registrypro.com
1. Accomplished persons of integrity, objectivity, and
intelligence, with reputations for sound judgment and open
minds, and a demonstrated capacity for thoughtful group
decision-making;
Susan Crawford is (or soon will be) a law professor at the Benjamin
Cardozo School of Law in New York. She was for many years a partner
with Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering in Washington, DC. She is well-known to
the ICANN community, having been active in the past on behalf of the
.coop registry. (If she is elected to the Board, she will not represent
private clients in the ICANN context.) She has been an active member of
the registry constituency since the new TLDs joined that group. She has
also been active as a writer about ICANN issues and policy, and is
well-versed in the history, structure, and mission of ICANN.
2. Persons with an understanding of ICANN's mission and the
potential impact of ICANN decisions on the global Internet
community, and committed to the success of ICANN;
Susan has a deep understanding of ICANN's mission and role in the world,
and is committed to ICANN's success.
3. Persons who will produce the broadest cultural and
geographic diversity on the Board consistent with meeting
the other criteria set forth in this Section;
It would be good idea not to have Linda Wilson remain as the sole female
member of the Board.
4. Persons who, in the aggregate, have personal familiarity
with the operation of gTLD registries and registrars; with
ccTLD registries; with IP address registries; with Internet
technical standards and protocols; with policy-development
procedures, legal traditions, and the public interest; and
with the broad range of business, individual, academic, and
non-commercial users of the Internet;
As a commentator on the ICANN world, and through attendance at most of
the ICANN meetings over the last several years, Susan has acquainted
herself with many of the constituencies and members of the ICANN
community. She is extremely knowledgeable about ICANN matters.
5. Persons who are willing to serve as volunteers, without
compensation other than the reimbursement of certain
expenses; and
Yes.
6. Persons who are able to work and communicate in written
and spoken English.
Yes.
