[nc-deletes] First attempt: Introduction
Recent policy development activity in relation to
studying transfers in the transfers task force,
providing advice on the VeriSign Wait List Service proposal, and in considering the redemption grace period proposal has
highlighted a range of issues associated with
current domain name delete processes.
Four specific issues have been identified as being
the following:
1. Uniform deletes practice after domain name expiry by registrars. 2. Deletion following a complaint on WHOIS accuracy. 3. Registry delete process. 4. Reversal of renewal transactions. In considering these issues the Task Force has
identified at least one key issue that remains open for further discussion and
work: the uniform reallocation of deleted names across all registries. The Task
Force believes that a more extensive analysis of this issue is needed than can
be provided within the time frame of our current charter.
This report will be presented to the Names Council
for acceptance and forwarded to the Board for agreement. We encourage the Names
Council to endorse our recommendations.
