Web interface to the .org whois is also available at:
http://www.orgtransition.info, or at http://www.pir.org. Port 43 is
available at the address you refer to.
Please note that this is the .org registry whois, and therefore is "thin" --
contact information for each .org domain is available at the sponsoring
registrar. After we complete registrar migration to a thick registry system
later in 2003, we will also move to a "thick" whois.
PIR has some very forward-thinking plans on Whois privacy, Identity and
Access -- see their registry contract
