[registrars] ON ANOTHER interesting NOTE - Verisigns WLS proposal
Now here are the points that Verisign made to justify its pricing
- The service is a test-bed and things may not work out
- The service may have low penetration (it might take some time to achieve
say abt 5% penetration)
- the service requires new investment in terms of developing the WLS product
and integratin it with the Registry inrastructure
Compare this with the .INFO Registry
- The .INFO Registry was launched as apart of ICANNS new gTLD Test Bed - and
may not actually work out in terms of market acceptance
- The service currently has 600,000 registered names (ant not growing
phenomenally) which represents less than 2% of the com/net/org market share
- the service required new investment in terms of developing the product,
protocol, Registry, branding, launch funds, infrastructur, building
relatinships with registrars (and yeah a U2 CONCERT :) )
Given that the scenario is exactly the same (infact scales tipped in favour
of verisign) ICANN fixed the .INFO Registry price at $5.75 per domain, while
the Verisign WLS is priced at $46. Has ICANN decided on this $46 pricing??
Dont they have a say in the matter?? and if yes i dont hear any comments
from them
