[registrars] Against the WLS proposal in its CURRENT FORM
I agree with Jim, and to a certain extent with Nikolaj. I am not AGAINST the
WLS proposal as a whole. Directi IS AGAINST THE VERISIGN WLS PROPOSAL in its
CURRENT FORM. The current slamming model is definetly one of the worst ways
to obtain deleted names.
However a large number of changes need to be made to the proposal in its
current form before I would be happy to move ahead with it. Amongst the most
important ones are -
1. Pricing (needs to drastically reduce)
2. Steps to ensure that this monopoly power is not abused by Verisign
Registrar (details have already been discussed in other emails)
3. Steps to protect Registrants from not losing their names
4. Additionally technical modifications to RRP which would reduce slamming
should be done anyways (several reccomendations that were mentioned in
George Kirikos' mail and have been floating around from before). Infact if
these changes are made before the WLS is brought in it may actually shed
some more light on this discussion
5. ICANN needs to be a part of this decision making process. I believe
introduction of a new service by the Registry is a very important issue and
as a whole affects Registrants and DNS worldwide.
There are others too ..... but these were the ones i could immediately think
