RE: [registrars] whois lookup

My concern was because we ask the registrant for the contact information
when they request the transfer. We attempt to match that up with the current
registrar's contact information. If there is a match we continue with the
transfer. If there isn't, we assume something is wrong and require that the
user update either the info they gave us, or their info at the current
registrar. So, if the email address that gets reported to us through port 43
is a moving target for the registrant, our process could get frustrating for
them.

However, after reading these many responses I think we just need to modify
the way we are doing transfers instead.

Tim

Here is how we do it and we do not see any problem:
individual goes to website, fill in form asking him who will be the
new contacts.
We get the owner information from whois. For the rest (contacts) it
is given before starting the transfer.

The information is listed in current Registrar's whois, yes, but
since we are using handles (something-GANDI) for contacts, the
information is not what we need, we need the handle, which is only
ours.

Our process is totally automated. Our software (see
http://open.gandi.net/ it is under a Free Licence) parses whois
information (near) always.

Patrick.
