[registrars] Congressional DOC Campaign
Hello All:
I do not know how many of you were able to listen to the Senate hearings on
ICANN reform this week or read the written testimony, but I believe that it
has a serious and direct impact on every registrar's business. Based upon my
email last Friday, several registrars have written or called telling me
about how ICANN competition has helped grow, create or save many businesses.
What I strongly believe must be done now is to let the collective voices of
smaller to mid-size registrars, that do not have the luxury of sending staff
to DC, make sure that their voices are heard.
Therefore, I have helped draft a series of correspondence templates that can
be sent to your Senators, your House Representative, and the DoC. To assist
registrars that have limited time, I have include in each letter the title
and fax number of the recipient based upon your business zip code and the
information about your representatives obtained from congress.org.
For my European registrar friends, I have tracked down the appropriate
contacts in the EU and will begin a similar effort next week on the other
side of the pond. With regard to non-European / non-American registrars, I
can provide you with the templates I have created and you can send them to
the appropriate representatives. The only thing that I ask is that you send
a copy to the DoC and the Registrar Constituency eFax account.
It is my strong believe that ICANN's efforts to date to create and maintain
competition has resulted in new companies and jobs where previously there
existed only a monopoly. ICANN is not perfect but it is far better than what
existed in 1999.
Should you have any questions/comments please do not hesitate to contact me.
Best regards,
Mike
