Greetings all,

I have never been called shy, so I will start the ball rolling
by nominating myself for one of the interim Names Council seats.

If elected I would be representing the Asia Pacific region, 
as I am a resident of Japan (and have been for 10 years.)  
I don't have a detailed resume prepared, so will include a brief
introduction.

Personal Background:  I am currently the Director of the System
Division at interQ Incorporated, so I am basically an operations
person.  I have been involved in the operation and management of 
Internet Service Provider networks and services for the past 4 years.
I have an MBA from the International University of Japan, and an 
undergraduate degree in Russian Studies from Tufts University.  
I initially came to Japan as a Naval Intelligence Officer where 
I served aboard a deployed aircraft carrier and at the US Forces
Japan Headquarters.  If you see a patern developed here, please
let me know, I haven't found one yet!  Oh yes, and I do speak
Japanese.

Organization Background:  interQ Inc., is one of Japan's most
successful independent ISP's offering dial up services and corporate
hosting services.  interQ is a member of the JPNIC, and as such
operates basically as a ccTLD Registrar.  We are also members of
a number of regional and global associations including the 
Internet Association of Japan (IAJ),  the Japan Regional Providers 
Association, the Internet Council of Registrars (CORE), and participate
in the Asia Pacific Top Level Domain (APTLD) association and 
the Asia Pacific Regional Internet Conference on Operational Technologies
(APRICOT.)  We are a 100% Japanese owned corporation, currently
with operations only in Japan, with headquarters in Tokyo.  Unlike
much of the corporate Internet industry in Japan, interQ does not
have ties or significant investment from the major Japanese
carriers or electronics manufacturers (NTT, NEC, Sony, Fujitsu etc.)
and are truly independent.

If I were to be elected to the Names Council, I believe that 
one of my primary tasks would be to attempt to work toward
consensus building in Asia.  Those of you who attended the
Berlin meeting witnessed the rather strong opinion from Asian
attendees that there was still not enough Asian representation 
among the interim constituency Names Council appointees.  I would 
attempt to make sure this claim was not made toward the Registrar
constituency.  Toward this end, I intend (regardless of whether
I am a Names Council member or not) to attempt to liaise between
the various Regional and Japanese associations with which 
we are associated, and to attempt to increase awareness of the
ICANN process in Asia, and participation from the region.

On a philosophical note, due to my previous experience, I am 
well aware of US Government operations, and am 100% in favor of 
the establishment of ICANN.  I do not believe the process is 
without its flaws, but believe that it must be made to succeed, 
for the benefit of the Internet as a whole.  To that end, I am 
committed to continue to attend the various face to face meetings 
that will likely be scheduled over the next months (or years.)

This turned out a little more long-winded than I had anticipated.
