It seems, also, that those who are against new TLDs are doing
so out of a vested interest in maintaining the value of their .com
names. Or because they're trademark-involved and don't want
more TLDs in which to have to police their trademarks. Or
they're already a country-code registry and don't want the
market diluted. The list goes on.

Everyone acts out of biased self-interest. It's the nature of the
world. But making a fair system need not be mutually exclusive.

As the founder of the .web registry (back in 1996, when this
whole debate seemed much simpler!), I'm very interested
in seeing a fair system. Saying, "well, then dump your
customers and relinquish your trademark and forget the
past 4 years of history and start over" isn't going to cut
it. What can we do *from here*?

I'm open to suggestion and open-minded about it. Make
constructive (as opposed to utopian) suggestions, and
let's work together.
