This is the tip of the iceberg. Before long, there will be real war over
Internet control - as I predicted a year ago - due to the heterodox ccTLD
allocation policies of Jon Postel, among other things.
Soon, when a guerrilla war is fought or there is a military coup, the local
registry (if one exists) and the backbone exchange points will be prime
targets, just like the radio and TV stations were the first buildings
attacked by armed troops entering the capitol cities of South American
countries during the coups of the 'seventies there, and indeed the control
of Internet access will be one of the main reasons for these new wars in the
first place.
Control of information has always been a cause of war. The Internet only
makes the prize more important.
