FYI, anyone who lives in the U.S. and is interested in participating
as a voting member of the Non-Commercial Domain Name Holders
Constituency of the DNSO but doesn't have a non-commercial domain
name, may acquire one without charge by registering their name (or
anything else) as a fourth-level subdomain in the .US system, in the
form yourname.yourregion.yourstate.us. For example, the ICIIU is
registered as iciiu.queens.ny.us.
In order to do this, all you have to do is contact the
registry/registrar for your regional or 3rd-level subdomain, which
you can get from the table of subdomains and their email addresses
at http://www.isi.edu/in-notes/us-domain-delegated.txt.
There should be no charge for the domain registration. If you have
any trouble, complain to ISI (www.isi.edu), or to Network Solutions,
Inc. (more accessible than ISI), which pays ISI for administering
.US.
Having the subdomain in .US permits you to have DNS and a website
for it just like any SLD under the gTLDs. It also carries the bonus
of giving you a voice in the current reorganization of the .US TLD.
