Robert Gray
Candidate in ICANNATLARGE.COM Interim Panel Election April 2002
My main reason for standing for the First Interim Panel is because I believe it is important that individual users of all nationalities and cultures are well represented in the governance body of the Internet. Unless the ICANN at Large movement is well supported ICANN will become the sole preserve of large corporates and governments.
I have worked in Information and Communications Technology since 1970. Over the past 20 years I have been a consultant to a number of multi-national companies as well as successfully setting up a number of small companies in New Zealand. I sold my interest in my web development company two years ago and have remained an independent consultant since then.
For the past two years I have been a counsellor of the Internet Society of New Zealand (InternetNZ). InternetNZ is a non-profit society established in 1995 to foster the co-ordinated and co-operative development of the internet in New Zealand. It is an independent body and its members include internet service providers, web designers, public information groups and internet users.
Since July 2000 I have also been the chairman of InternetNZ's wholly owned subsidiary Domainz. Domainz has 14 staff and is responsible for operating and maintaining the .nz TLD.
Thank you for considering my candidacy.
