This is a proposal for any organization, be it registry, registrar, names or
numbers, and any constituency that is organized enough to develop a budget
and fund raising system:
A voluntary donation of eight percent (8%) of revenues collected goes to
ICANN.
Now if the organization, such as a ccTLD or a constituency does not get
involved in charging fees or collectiong funds, it pays 8% of nothing.
While this may seem like a shocking number, it would actually generate less
funding than ICANN states it needs. Based on an overall potential of fees
and dues of approximately $ 50 million US dollars annually, the resultant
funding would be US $ 4 million, if everyone paid.
So let's get the ball rolling on the funding. Those on the list who may wish
to develop a separate thread on how much is really needed, or what services
might be provided, could do so under another topic.
