Re: [wg-review] Around Two weeks before Jan 15th?
On another board I participate on this is an example of domain holders
concern and a reason for their lack of trust in the Registrars and in the
relationship between the registrars and ICANN.
One individual's recent experience;
"A few days ago someone here said NSI has partnered with Great Domains on
their big Christmas weekend sale as Icann rules prohibit NSI from hoarding
and selling all those names themselves.
I just verified that seems to be what happened. I called GD re my deciding
to use the expedited ($199-fee) transfer service they advertised on the GD
website for the 1 cancelled name I had purchased Saturday from GD.
The GD cust serv rep told me that huge domain sale was NSI's and they really
had basically nothing to do with it, and they can't help me in any way and I
have to deal with NSI and referred me there. Sure enough I called NSI and
they said this was so and took my credit card number to pay the fast service
fee.
Obviously NSI used GD as a front to sell the names they have been hoarding
to make it appear more hands-off and legal. I am sure they will be doing
this even to a greater and more frequent degree in the future.
This was no doubt one big reason Network Solutions is said to have paid
$100,000,000 for GD, double what Afternic sold for."
So when some say a group represented by companies who act in this fashion
should have a "special place" or be given credibility, I have to wonder
whether or not that person has their own agenda or relationship with the
groups in question.
So, no Miles you are not the only one suspicious of the Registrars.
