[wg-review] Internet Flourishes Despite ICANN
COMPUTERGRAM INTERNATIONAL: JANUARY 08 2001
+ Internet Grows to 100m Hosts in 2000, Report Says
The number of hosts connected to the internet has surpassed 100
million, Telcordia Technologies Inc reported last Friday.
According to the company, the 100 million figure represents a
45% increase over the course of 2000.
The number is based on Telcordia's statistical sampling tool,
Internet Sizer, which extrapolates the number of servers,
routers, ISP modems and workstations in order to estimate the
size of the internet.
According to the report, there are 350 million internet users
in the world, giving an average of 3.4 users per host. The US
has an average of 2.4 users per host, while less-developed
nations such as India and China have about 100 users per host,
Telcordia says.
The most hosts are located in the US, Japan, Canada, the UK and
Germany. The most per capita are in the US, Finland, Iceland,
Norway and Canada. The largest growth rates last year were in
Slovakia, Uruguay, Brazil, Indonesia and Italy.
