[wg-review] spoofed header
All,
Generally, the headers from Mr Conant appear as follows:
From: Derek Conant - DNSGA <dconant@dnsga.org>
Organization: Domain Name System General Assembly (DNSGA)
X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.74 [en] (Win98; U)
and the headers from Mr Sotiropolos appear as:
Reply-To: sotiris@hermesnetwork.com
Organization: Hermes Network, Inc.
X-Mailer: Opera 5.00 build 828
X-Priority: 3 (Normal)
Mime-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"
Note that the post attributed to Mr Conant in the thread "Re:[PRIVATE] has
the following headers:
From: Derek Conant - DNSGA <dconant@dnsga.org>
Subject: [wg-review] RE: [PRIVATE]
X-Mailer: Opera 5.00 build 828
X-Priority: 3 (Normal)
Mime-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"
and is signed by Mr Sotiropolos. Lacking the organization header, and with
the X-Mailer showing that same build of Opera 5.00 as Mr Sotiropolos, it
appears that the FROM header has been spoofed, and the mail is indeed not
from Mr. Conant.
While this is a clear demonstration of why either a cookie or password
based voting system is preferable to one conducted on an email list, it is
entirely inappropriate for a serious discussion.
Regards,
Greg
