[wg-review] Intake from the GA ML

Hello from Taiwan!

A few issues I’d like to highlight:

1. This thread must not distract the WG members from the important efforts underway for the proposal for ‘limited’ change to DNSO.  All efforts and credit to the individuals and the process must be treasured and kept safe.  My deepest respect and appreciation to all those involved in this current, urgent matter.

2. The WG website is great, what about a back-up majordomo/listserv system to ensure that if they pull the plug on this WG list, we can still maintain the community intact and continue to function to ensure efforts to provide advice and suggestions for ICANN improvements does not fizzle out.  I know many of you are active in the GA list, but it seems this list remains more focused and functional in terms of tangible results.  Just a feeling, I'’ not on the GA list yet.

3.  The BoD request to 1)separate the issues into those which can improve the current DNSO intact vs. those which require fundamental change 2)the fixed deadline to submit suggestions on the former, does not seem to deny in any way the opportunity for the WG to also provide advice/suggestions for more fundamental change too, if we feel it is important and useful.  There was no specific deadline for such set, but it does not deny us the opportunity to do so as (or if) we see fit.  Let the BoD think of it as a bonus proposal.

Once the current efforts are completed for the ‘limited’ proposal, can we not then focus on the ‘fundamental’ changes we may believe are also necessary, such as the need for oversight of the ICANN organization at a higher level?

I think the current thread has a lot of merit and needs a lot of development through discourse and sharing among WG members.  It just ‘feels’ as if there is a nice fat consensus just waiting out there for us to stumble upon.  Issues such as clean sheet study vs. oversight, who would be appropriate for such a roles, etc. are details to work out together.
