[ga] Re: Open Letter to Mr Jeff Neuman from The Internet Challenge

Dear Jeff and Vint

You can't do the work I choose to do without going down some wrong roads and
having to turn back. I've had a response from Ted Cucci as follows:

"Richard, he must have registered it through us the normal way. We did not
submit any applications for the .biz Group 2B domains. We did not have an
online form for these names but rather our regular search box was up for all
extensions. Should you need anything else let me know.

Ted Cucci
Ex. V.P. Operations/Co-Founder"

I apologise to Ted for troubling him. This is a simple explanation, and
they're the best!

Meanwhile: Can I ask you a troubling question I have concerning the whole
principle of a "business only" registry and how it's policed. If it's left
to a few people to challenge occasional domains through the stipulated
processes, then the majority of domain sales for profit will slip through
the net, and before you know it, the whole .biz system will be up for sale
over the Internet wherever domains are sold.

An example of the ambiguities:

Take Richard Wilson, whose Resource Marketing company offers Domain
Speculation as its main business. You can see it at:
www.DomainsInvest.net where he explains that his company specialises in
buying domains to re-sell at a profit.

Using a variety of registrars, Richard Wilson obtained 344 names in the .biz
Group 2B, registered to Resource marketing.

What is the position with a company like that? It's almost impossible to
police the Internet or stop him from violating the .biz rules (if he chooses
to do do).

Was the establishment of Challenge procedures an adequate way of policing
the system, or was the idea of a "business only" TLD a fallcy from the
start?

Not easy questions I know!

Richard
