Yeah, but people had HEARD of WWII. It affected every living human at the time
ans was a direct threat to their safety and lives. DNS is to the 1% of people who
nkow what it is, merely the determining factor for what flavour of fashion stetement
they have printed on their business card.

Yeah yeah. In a couple of years I've have been doing this for almsot
a decade, so please excuse the curmugeonry, but I'm cynical.
I mean I originally thought this was some sort of community
project where we'd all work together to build the next generation
of DNS, but there were these guys who always said THEY were in charge
and were on the third round now of this. Each round was as convincing
as the last, more actually, and silly me I jut thought that facts
would prevail over any bullshit trying to gig the ideals of the
white paper.
You shouldn't need demonstrations for that; so, in an ICANN that's supposed
to measure community consensus here's a bit where I used my (1) turn at the
mike at the DNSO formation meeting in Berlin to sneakily say "can
we get any sort of feel for what sort of consensus there is that
the GAC should be a part of any of this" and about 11 (horrified)
poeple out of about a roomfull of 200 put up their hands while
looking arounnd nervously. It's here someplace:
http://cyber.law.harvard.edu/scripts/rammaker.asp?s=real&dir=icann&file=Open-Meeeting-052699&start=45-45.1
(If you find it, lemme know the time marker, I'm not sure it's worth reinstalling
real(spit)video to see this again)
So no, that didn't work. Massive opposition in the press, mailing lists and
fora such as /. has no effect... this stuff is not news to the mainstream tech
press; it's justnot interesting.
So you'd need MASSIVE demonstrations and even then you'd be poo poo'd and told
No, you don't understand, governments are working together on this, but thank
you for your interest.
Change must cmoe from within the community; legacy beurocracies are incapable of change,
or reform.
