Re: [ga-roots] TLD's
All watchers,
Although the process was hindered due to my vitriolic tongue (fingers) I have been
very nicely educated by Leah as to the nature and hopeful mission of the TLDA. It
is never pleasant to defend and justify ones hard work creation, but let me say Leah
has represented the TLDA very nicely and completely won my conversion to a full
blown supporter. I am very convinced that the people running it and their hardwork
will bring great dividends to the stability of the Net as we dotcommoners so
desperately hope for.
What we should watch for is that they retain a "business/organizational model" which
requires ultimate user satisfaction. To date they seem to have this as far more a
priority than does ICANN. I am thinking of them as the True Value neighborhood model
as opposed to the mega stores.
Some matters I believe they are concerned with are the incorporation of ccTLDs, and
trying to incorporate the users input without diluting their purpose as a trade
organization.
I do not find their incorporation in Delaware to be an issue in any regard perhaps
an international flavor would be better for marketing worldwide but it intrinsically
has no fault.
As to Mr. Corliss' involvement and unseeming lack of disclosure before being
prompted by Younger, I find no reason to believe that it taints either position
except maybe to overwork the poor man. As he settles into both positions I believe
he may help to facilitate better understanding and maybe even facilitate better
communication, I am definately convinced he operates in both arenas quite
independantly.
It is my never humble opinion that the GA should open up a line of communication and
lend support to this difficult endeavor. I would ask that the TLDA consider a
silent observer status to a liason from us and visa versa.
There are some positive measures that the GA can take to make our internet more
safe, we are constricted by the by-laws of our Corp. but we are not restricted from
being intelligent enough to know that this is essentially a very good idea and that
we will work with them to help promote both of our missions to create a more stable
and internetstakeholder representative Internet.
I also ask that Leah filter out some of her correct verbal thrashing of me and
include the educational portions of her wonderful and educational mails to me, so
that we may make them available for education. They are beautifully written and
easy for me to get without being condescending (a tough act).
I would hope that someone with more credibility and not rooted in commoner status
would form something into a motion for our support. (no i do not think patrick
should do it although i am sure he could help, after all we must avoid the
appearance of impropriety)
Sincerely,
--
