That is exactly the point. They have proposed a market-based approach. A
vested interest is exactly what would be needed with this approach.
Operational stability, functionality and market forces would drive the
inclusion of new TLDs.
Had ICANN taken a more technical, less VC-like approach toward their
application process, this would already be in place. ICANN has, however,
taken a different, more political approach.
This is not a judgement for or against either approach. It is just fact.
