Re: [ga] NC members, censorship and other absurd things

Dear Bret, Roberto, Kent, Amadeu, Roeland, Elisabeth, and all,

in fact this is the most serious sabotage against the concept itself of
the GA and an At-Large membership yet launched. It is hard to argue for
openness and transparency, membership based on cyber-existence, etc. in
the face of it. I have proposed for every member of the DNSO to join the
GA list - today at least, this is an undefendable proposition.

Only the excess civility of so public a list prevents proactive banning of
any further continuance of this masquerade. The Acceptable Use Policy of
any other reasonable institution would have stopped this way back and
preserved the necessary environment for democracy, on objective, proven
grounds (spamming, false addresses, supplantation, denial of service,
etc. are only a few of the figures for analyzing this case before even
entering the actual contents of the messages sent) (for example, the
postings under discussion are in violation of more than half of the AUP
rules in our university).

We are not speaking "regulation" here, we are as many other groups (on or
off the Internet) in self-regulation mode, a *very* different matter:
agreeing on rules for work. Let's not buy this egregious cheat.

Notable also is the fact that yesterday's hyperactive posters are mum
today. Most surely enjoying the discussion on how to preserve the rights
they have now renounced (if "they" really are more than one person, or
human at all), and
enjoying their particular success in disrupting one more day of other
people's work.

On to constructive work. Does anyone in the GA remember seeing a single
domain-name issue discussed in the last several dozen postings? There
should be plenty after LA!

One last word is of public recognition for Elisabeth in the face of
undeserved, beyond-the-pale harassment, insult and slander. The fact that
this organization is international is especially relevant in that many
cultures find this level of offense intolerable.
