What do you mean by that?
Granted, NSI are greedy, irritating and sometimes incompetent. Do
you think that is ICANN's fault?
Granted also, ICANN is being disgracefully slow getting new TLDs
in place. Can you not do something constructive to speed up the
process, rather than bypassing the whole structure?

How many root servers? On what continents? Run by who? If you want
anyone to even consider making their business dependent on this
service, you have some heavy convincing to do. Any competent DNS
admin could build a root server in a few hours or, as you say,
set local DNS to point to your root in minutes. Why should they
take that risk?
