RE: [registrars] RE: Whois expiration dates
Elana,
Thanks for the note.
I know that our technical team is currently working on this, but I do not
know the status of their progress on full identification and final
resolution. I will find this out and let you know.
Best regards,
Bruce

Bruce - as you know, we have seen several such names (ranging in creation
date from several years to several weeks). As always, there's a concern
that several examples point to a larger problem. When will you have the
full extent of the problem identified and fixed?
Thank you, Elana

Mike,
Thanks for bringing this issue to my attention.
As I remember being told many times in school, if you have a question, you
can be sure others do also - so given this, I would assume that other
registrars may have similar questions, so I am taking the liberty of posting
my reply to you also to the Registrar Constituency mailing list (though I've
deleted your and Delores' phone numbers, as well as her email address, and
your customers identifiable information).
As you will see from the note I posted to the GA mailing list
(http://www.dnso.org/clubpublic/ga-full/Arc09/msg02098.html), we have
recently been made aware of a data problem with a few domains that were
registered approximately two years ago. That issue is on the development
queue to be resolved in the near term. Though I do not know the extent of
the problem, our initial review shows that it is limited to less than 20
domains.
I can't speak to why other registrars do not show expiration dates or have
available whois functions, all of which are required by the ICANN contracts.
I can tell you that the VeriSign Registrar abides by the contracts, and when
data issues are identified, as has been the case in this situation, we work
at getting them resolved in an expeditious manner. Should you be aware of
any domains that have any issues, please let me know.
Regards,
Bruce

Bruce,
I want to give you an opportunity to explain the attached statement from one
of your fellow VeriSign employees. The attached was sent to one of our
customers. If Delores made this statement in error, please let us know.
Otherwise I must bring issue up with the rest of the Registrars
Constituency.
I believe that the Registrars Accreditation Agreement from November 1999 is
still in force for all .COM/.NET/.ORG registrations.

The expiration date that we show in our database is not required by ICANN.
This information is for historical information and to help our customers to
know when their domain name is up for renewal. As you have stated, other
registrars do not have this information we provide this as a courtesy.
Best Regards,
Delores (Jordan) Travis
