Just thought some of you would be interested in taking a look at...

This is the "Webnames Network" belonging to Marc S. Brittan, who, as
several others have mentioned, has pre-registered quite a good deal of
.web names with IOD. On this site he claims "We hold the service marks
and trademarks to one of the worlds largest collections of ".web"
names."

It's pretty clear that Mr. Brittan is engaging in the cybersquatting
tactics that most of us are TRYING to reduce. As I've gone through the
.web database run by IOD, there are several other individuals/groups
that own more than their fair share of pre-registrations of good names.
It's pretty obvious that a small group of people stand to profit greatly
should the IOD be selected and the pre-registrations stand. (And I'm
sure there are others who have large amounts pre-registered through CORE
as well, however no database can be accessed to view this).

I agree with all the people that have mailed me and stated that
cybersquatters will get the good names anyway if the pre-registrations
are wiped out, and that is probably true. However if IOD is selected to
be the registrar of the .web namespace and the registrations all start
at the same time, everybody WILL have had an equal opportunity and there
will be no room to complain that people weren't given a fair shot.

I continue to believe that if the pre-registrations stand for .web and
the other TLDs proposed by CORE, there's little use for the namespaces
and no real value for adding them to the root, but that's just my
opinion.

On the subject of pre-registrations, I've seen little discussion of CORE
pre-registrations. I'd be interested in hearing people's comments about
these. Does anybody support letting those pre-registrations stand?
Why/why not? If IOD's pre-registrations stand, should CORE's? I think
these are issues that need to be dealt with.

(As a sidenote to some of the people I've heard from: I do hold
pre-registrations through both IOD and CORE, however I'm trying to be as
objective as possible in regards to this issue.)
