Dear ICANN,
As a solicitor specialising in intellectual property and information technology litigation I regularly see the impact of domain name piracy and opportunistic trading.
The amount of time and money spent by companies and organisations of all kinds on trying to regain domain names to which they are properly entitled is very considerable.
Given the level of sophistication and awareness that now exists about domain names (not least as a result of opportunist activity) it seems inevitable that there will be a race to register in the new top level domains between "traders" in names and those organisations which need to secure them, unless precautions such as those proposed in the IPC Proposal "Sunrise Plus Twenty" are put in place.
Yours sincerely,
Nicholas Cunningham
