I support the IPC's proposal on the protection of trademarks through
the Sunrise Plus 20 proposal. One of the overlooked aspects of the
trademark system on the Internet is that marks exist primarily for consumer
recognition and protection. These principles must to extend to protection
of domain names on the Internet which consumers view as indicating the
source or origin associated with a mark. Of course, use marks as legitimate
criticism and comment will still exist and the existence of the Web has if
anything broadened the arena of protected speech. . However, to protect
legitimate trademark owners interests is really to protect the public .
